In the past two years, Arcus Ecological Association from Ba\u010dka Topola organized art contest for primary school students on the occasion of the Earth Day. The contest is aimed at promoting the nature protection, the knowledge about the living beings that surround us, about their habitat, ecology and importance. That is why the contest is addressed to young population, especially the primary school students<\/strong>. In the previous years there were a lot of participants from our country, but from abroad as well, and that is how the contest became international. Again, in 2020 we expect participants from all over the Serbia and from abroad, too.<\/p>\n

Theme of 2020 contest is Cornflower<\/strong> and its habitat<\/strong>. These bright blue flowers were once a common sight in arable fields and together with Common poppy, Forking larkspur, Summer pheasant\u2019s eye and (now already protected by law) Common corn-cockle made an iconic image of rural meadows. Cornflower was widespread in the whole Central Europe. The Cornflower has declined dramatically in the wild in the last 60 years and that is what makes this theme interesting nowadays and illustrates what has happened to many of our wild flowers. Its decrease is due to modern agricultural practices and increased use of herbicides. This annual wild flower of the composite family (Asteraceae<\/em>) is typically found in the field margins of winter cereals, mainly wheat and rye, but also abandoned fields and drier meadows. Cornflower has grey-green branched stems, the leaves are lanceolate, lower leaves are considerably longer than upper leaves. It flowers from May till September. The flowers are most commonly an intense blue colour, produced in flowerheads, and have been used historically for their\u00a0blue pigment. It is also known as medicinal herb.<\/p>\n

Contest details<\/strong><\/p>\n

Contest type: art- drawing, watercolour, collage, and similar techniques<\/em><\/p>\n

Categories:<\/p>\n

– primary school students 1st<\/sup> – 2nd<\/sup> grade (7 – 8 y. o.)<\/p>\n

– primary school students 3rd<\/sup> – 4th<\/sup> grade (9 – 10 y. o.)<\/p>\n

– primary school students 5th<\/sup> – 8th<\/sup> grade (11 – 14 y. o.)<\/p>\n

Works can be created in any technique and size that is suitable for the age of participant. We expect works that show Cornflower and its habitat.<\/p>\n

Participants can create and prepare their works on art classes in school or independently from educational institution.<\/p>\n

Participation method and deadline<\/strong><\/p>\n

Each participant can submit only one work. It is obligatory to write down on the back of the work the following information:<\/p>\n

– title of the work<\/p>\n

– name of the author<\/p>\n

– author\u2019s age and school grade<\/p>\n

– contact information of the author or his\/her parent\/guardian (phone number and e-mail obligatory)<\/p>\n

– art teacher\u2019s name (if helped with work preparation)<\/p>\n

– name of the school that is author attending<\/p>\n

Contest participants can submit their application by sending their works by post at the following address: Arcus Ecological Association, 24300 Ba\u010dka Topola, \u0160kolska 2, Serbia (Ekolo\u0161ko dru\u0161tvo \u201cArkus\u201d, 24300 Ba\u010dka Topola, \u0160kolska 2, Srbija).<\/p>\n

Deadline for sending the works is 28 March 2020<\/strong> (Saturday).<\/p>\n

There is no participation fee. The works can\u2019t be returned to the authors.<\/p>\n

Privacy policy<\/strong><\/p>\n

By registering participants agree to be bound by this agreement and accept all its parts.\u00a0Artists authorize Arcus Ecological Association to process artist’s personal data in accordance with law.\u00a0Personal data and submitted works will be used in accordance to the purpose of the contest.<\/p>\n

Selection, awards and collective exhibition<\/strong><\/p>\n

In each category will be selected three best works by jury made up of Arcus Ecological Association\u2019s members. If there will be any work that stands out, the jury can award special prize. Jury will not take into consideration the works with incomplete information about the work and its author, and the works which will be sent after the deadline. The awards are books suitable for the age of the authors.<\/p>\n

All submitted artworks will be exhibited in Exhibition Hall of the Culture Centre of Ba\u010dka Topola. Collective exhibition opening and award ceremony will be held on 20 April 2020<\/strong> (Monday) at 18:00<\/strong>. The exhibition will be open to the public from 20 April to 30 April 2020<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

We are expecting very creative artworks.<\/p>\n
