The IWC is coordinated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wetlands.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Wetlands International<\/em><\/a> and it is organized every year in most countries of the world. <!--more--><span id=\"more-751\"><\/span><span id=\"more-705\"><\/span><span id=\"more-623\"><\/span>In 2023 the period of observations was between 10<sup>th<\/sup> and 30<sup>th<\/sup> of January and the results of waterbird counting had to be provided the IWC until 10<sup>th<\/sup> of February.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_625\" style=\"width: 275px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/arcus.org.rs\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/zobnatica.lake_.Photo_.Sihelnik.J..jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-625\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-625\" title=\"Zobnatica lake (Photo: Sihelnik J\u00f3zsef)\" src=\"https:\/\/arcus.org.rs\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/zobnatica.lake_.Photo_.Sihelnik.J.-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Zobnatica lake (Photo: Sihelnik J\u00f3zsef)\" width=\"265\" height=\"177\" srcset=\"https:\/\/arcus.org.rs\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/zobnatica.lake_.Photo_.Sihelnik.J.-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/arcus.org.rs\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/zobnatica.lake_.Photo_.Sihelnik.J..jpg 840w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 265px) 100vw, 265px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-625\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Zobnatica lake (Photo: Sihelnik J\u00f3zsef)<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ornithologists from Ornithological work group of Arcus Ecological Association participate in national survey since 2012. This year, the activities took part from 14<sup>th<\/sup> till 15<sup>th<\/sup> January. The whole area of the Zobnatica lake was observed, as well as the Krivaja creek completely to \u0110ur\u0111in. Later the Krivaja creek was observed from area near Ba\u010dka Topola to Baj\u0161a.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In our observation area the most important waterbird species were the following:\u00a0<strong>Mallard<\/strong> (<i>Anas platyrhynchos<\/i>) 547,\u00a0<strong><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Common Crane<\/span><\/strong> (<i>Grus grus<\/i>) 394,\u00a0<strong>Eurasian<span class=\"fontstyle0\"> Coot<\/span><\/strong> (<em>Fulica atra<\/em>) 205,\u00a0<strong>Mute Swan<\/strong> (<i>Cygnus olor<\/i>) 54,\u00a0<strong><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Common<\/span><\/strong> <strong>Moorhen<\/strong> (<em>Gallinula chloropus<\/em>) 33,\u00a0<strong><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Eurasian Teal<\/span><\/strong> (<i>Anas crecca<\/i>) 29,\u00a0<strong><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Common<\/span><\/strong> <strong>Reed Bunting<\/strong> (<i>Emberiza schoeniclus<\/i>) 22,\u00a0<strong>Grey Heron<\/strong> (<i>Ardea cinerea<\/i>) 14,\u00a0<strong>Gadwall<\/strong> (<i>Anas strepera<\/i>) 13,\u00a0<strong><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Greylag Goose<\/span><\/strong> (<i>Anser anser<\/i>) 8,\u00a0<strong>Hen Harrier<\/strong> (<i>Circus cyaneus<\/i>) 7,\u00a0<strong>Great Egret<\/strong> (<em>Egretta alba<\/em>) 7,\u00a0<strong><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Bearded Reedling<\/span><\/strong> (<i>Panurus biarmicus<\/i>) 7, <strong><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Common<\/span><\/strong> <strong>Pochard<\/strong> (<i>Aythya ferina<\/i>) 6,\u00a0<strong>Common Kingfisher<\/strong> (<i>Alcedo atthis<\/i>) 5,\u00a0<strong>Black-headed Gull<\/strong> (<i>Larus ridibundus<\/i>) 5,\u00a0<span class=\"aCOpRe\"><strong><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Great Cormorant<\/span><\/strong> (<em>Phalacrocorax carbo<\/em>)<\/span> 4,\u00a0<strong>Caspian Gull<\/strong> (<em>Larus cachinnans<\/em>) 3,\u00a0<strong>Eurasian<\/strong> <strong><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Penduline Tit<\/span><\/strong> (<i>Remiz pendulinus<\/i>) 3,\u00a0<span class=\"aCOpRe\"><strong>White-Tailed Eagle<\/strong> (<em>Haliaeetus albicilla<\/em>)<\/span> 1,\u00a0<strong><span class=\"fontstyle0\">White Wagtail<\/span><\/strong> (<em>Motacilla alba<\/em>) 1,\u00a0<strong>Great Crested Grebe<\/strong> (<em>Podiceps cristatus<\/em>) 1 and <strong><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Common<\/span><\/strong> <strong>Shelduck<\/strong> (<em><span class=\"aCOpRe\">Tadorna tadorna<\/span><\/em>) 1.
